Vintage French Collage of Francs Tramp Art Frame France circa 1950

A charming vintage French collage of antique French monetary assignments set within a tramp art style frame from France circa 1950. These remnants of a turbulent French past have been assembled by hand and been arranged in an intriguing fashion on a dark background to heighten the appearance of the varieties of the printed typefaces used when first made. In the centre of the collage is a coloured engraving of a "homme vieux" or old man dressed in colourful peasant clothes carrying a walking stick. The entire piece has been surrounded by a frame chosen to resemble "tramp art" made from found materials by itinerants who were forced to use whatever was available to create pieces that remain prized collectibles today. This decorative piece was originally part of a collection in a seaside hotel on the south coast of Britain. Pleae note the label on the reverse from the famous London dealer Stephanie Hoppen.
