Antique French Mahogany and Brass Cabinet Armoire Top Crown circa 1870

An antique French fragment from a bibliothèque made of mahogany inlaid with brass circa 1870. The simple arch top frames the Louis XVI pattern of a quiver of arrows amidst a group of twining foliage. This piece was the top decorative architectural element placed above the two vertical sides of the bookcase and designed so that the Neoclassical style brass inlay would reflect the light in the room where the armoire cabinet bibliothèque was placed. Now this piece carries enormous decorative weight when hanging on a wall or joined with other objects for display.
