Antique French Brown Amber Hand-Blown Glass Bottle France circa 1875

A handsome antique French dark amber hand-blown glass bottle circa 1875 originally used to transport brandy. Please look at the mouth of the bottle where the irregular edge indicates the point at which the bottle was snipped off from the end of the glass blower's tube. The slight irregularity to the shape and the air bubbles visibly trapped in the glass are also tell-tale signs of its hand-made nature. Dark glass was used in the transportation of strong alcoholic beverages because they would protect against the sun which would degrade the contents.
