Antique English Ceramic Jelly Mould or Mold England circa 1880

A large antique English oval glazed ceramic jelly mould mold with an eight pointed star in the centre from England circa 1880. The use of a mould to create an edible jello or custard was an integral part of a beautifully prepared dinner since at least the seventeen hundreds and kitchens always possessed an assortment of moulds in a variety of patterns. The point of a mould was to add to the visual interest of the food presented at the table as it was as necessary for the meal to be a pretty as possible as it was for the food to be delicious. The amazing shapes and sheer imaginative ideas about what food could look like are embodied in each of the moulds we have on offer.
