Antique Italian Brass Dolphin Sculpture from Italy circa 1875

A lively antique Italian brass dolphin sculpture from Italy circa 1875 featuring the classical pose of a looped tail above the wide mouth all highlighted with great detail. This motif first appeared in Renaissance Italy and was often seen on maps of the period indicating uncharted waters. The marvelous fountains of Rome also feature these upturned sea dolphin creatures spouting great jets of water from their mouth.
