Antique English Watercolour of Broadstairs England circa 1890

A lovely antique English watercolour of Broadstairs, England circa 1890 with the original frame. Broadstairs is a coastal town on the Isle of Thanet in the Thanet district of east Kent, England, about 80 miles (130 km) south-east of London. Situated between Margate and Ramsgate, Broadstairs is one of Thanet's seaside resorts, known as the "Jewel in Thanet's crown". The name, Broadstairs, derives from a former flight of steps in the chalk cliff, which led from the sands up to the 11th-century shrine of St. Mary on the cliff's summit. This elegant watercolour depicts a closeup of the town with a number of persons strolling along the beach as well as sailing vessels in the harbour. Note the charming changing pavilions set up along the shore to accommodate privacy while getting ready for a healthful dip in the saltwater. Broadstairs was quite a popular resort town easily reached from London and found its population swelling in the summer as townspeople flocked to the shore for a holiday. Not only an attractive watercolour this is an historical document showing a particular slice of English history.
