Antique English Regency Period Magnum Wine Decanter England circa 1820

An antique English Regency period moulded glass wine decanter in a magnum size from England circa 1820. This is an exceptional decanter both for its size and the unusual cross hatched design that wraps the entire rounded body where the wine is visible when the decanter is full. A magnum of wine is the equivalent of two full bottles of wine and is generally used for excellent vintages. Magnums of wines and champagne were often enjoyed at celebrations with a large number of guests and increased both the festivity quotient while reducing the number of bottles needed at the table. Please use the zoom feature on our website to see the swirl of the cross hatch as it sweeps across the decanter as well as the neck of the bottle to see that it never had a stopper as it remains totally unblemished.  This decanter may be used at the table as it always has been or as an object in its own right or as an unexpected display vase for a slender long stemmed flower.
