Pair of Vintage French Régence Style Two Arm Painted Sconces circa 1920

A pair of vintage French Régence style painted wood sconces that each have a pair of candle arms from France circa 1920. Please notice the grand scale of these sconces that were crafted to emulate the magnificence of the Regence era in early eighteenth century France. Each of the sconces has an oval backplate (designed to cover the wall where the wires are placed) with a large three feather flourish at the top and a feathered crest at the base. Both sides of the oval are framed with tall "C" shaped scrolls and the background features a trellis pattern. The centre medallion of each sconce is set with a border of raised oval beads that enclose a background centred on a square medallion decorated in a cross hatch design set between the pair of arms. The arms are exceptionally tall and created from a series of curving scrolls that move up and out from the back plate. Because of their sculptural quality they are equally impressive no matter what angle from which they are viewed. Set on top of each arm is the bobeche and candle nozzle that originally would have held a burning candle. Their decorative motifs relate to the other elements of the sconces however now they are ready to be electrified for American wiring and fitted for bulbs.
