Antique Italian Gilded Wall Bracket from Italy circa 1870
A small antique Italian carved and gilded wooden wall bracket shelf from Italy circa 1870 having a lower section in the form of a central arc flanked by out swept acanthus leaves. The top display section has a moulded edge with carving in the Baroque style. This type of piece was always used to mount a prized possession and the gilded finish was highly reflective of any available light. Notice how the display surface will accommodate either an object with a flat bottom or a platter held securely by the recessed plate groove.
