Antique French Zinc Spire Finial France circa 1900

A tall antique French zinc spire finial from the roof of an orangerie from the Belle Epoque period in France circa 1900. This elegant spire with a sphere topped with an elongated shaft was part of the decoration on an "orangerie" or greenhouse used to protect tropical plants during the cold winter months. Because zinc is a light and easily manipulated material as well as being extremely weather resistant it was an ideal choice for exterior decoration.
