Antique Austrian Thonet Mahogany Table circa 1890

This antique Austrian Thonet circular mahogany table circa 1895 was originally designed by Gebruder Thonet in 1888. Christened the Rehbeintisch Bentwood Table it has a unique criss cross design where individual legs have been steam bent and joined together to create a double leg. Please notice the graceful manner in which the legs are arranged symmetrically so they may be seen with pleasure from any direction. Intriguingly, given the long history of hunting in Austria and surrounding countries the legs of the table end in a distinctive hoof foot embellished with the original painted finish. The simplicity of this design by Thonet and the graphic quality of its appearance continue to imbue the table with a modern appeal. The round top bears traces of the original black line set in from the edge that echoes the colour of the hoof foot. A perfect size to use between chairs, beside a sofa or as a bedside table where its powerful presence will be eyecatching.
