Antique Danish Neoclassical Mirror Denmark circa 1860 (23"w x 35 1/2"h)

The bold form of this antique Neoclassical painted Danish mirror from Denmark circa 1860 creates a powerful focal point when combined with the striking contrast between the gilded ornamentation and the dark black green painted finish. The central arch is defined by a pattern of overlapping tiles similar to a roof and flanked by a pair of pineapple finials. The base of the frame has a raised moulded edge that support a pair of egg shaped finials. The antique mirror plate is original and features the customary foxing and aging that comes with the passage of time. The frame surrounding the mirror is gilded and both above and below the mirror is a horizontal band of applied decoration in a Neoclassical theme that is also gilded. Atop the frame is a carved and gilded wood bouquet of flowers in a basket. Please note that this surmount is removable so the mirror may be easily moved.
