Antique Dutch Baroque Style Bombé Mahogany Chest from Holland circa 1850

A classic Dutch bombé front mahogany chest of drawers from Holland circa 1850. Please notice the shaped top having a serpentine front above the three cascading drawers. The drawers are graduated in size and each one features beautiful hand cast brass hardware with an urn flanked by swags. The escutcheons (lock plates) are similarly designed with intricate detailing. The apron at the base is centred on a large hand carved urn adorned with similar swags as the brass hardware. The front corners are set at a forty five degree angle and slope down to two well carved lion paw feet. The beauty of the mahogany timber is outstanding and the sculptural quality of this chest creates a sense of presence in any space. A chest of this quality always took pride of place in a home and would have been placed in the public area where it could be admired by visitors as well as the family.
