Antique English George III Oak Chest of Drawers England circa 1830

A handsome antique English Georgian oak chest of drawers circa 1830 with the original brass hardware. The terrific simplicity of this antique oak chest has a surprisingly modern feel especially as it is constructed entirely of oak without any embellishment. The upper two drawers are set side by side while the lower three drawers span the width of the chest. Because this is a Georgian chest of drawers the entire piece is elevated on bracket feet because of the visual sense of lightness imparted which was a vital value during eighteenth century England. Please enlarge the photographs to see the grain of the oak and the construction details which made this chest able to easily pass years and years of use while being waxed and polished faithfully to give it a gleaming patina. One quirk we love is that four drawers have a recessed escutcheon to guide the key while one drawer has an oval brass plate escutcheon. Just another clue to its age that gives the chest its unique quality.
