Antique English George III Period Mahogany Slant Front Desk circa 1800

A classic antique English George III period mahogany slant front desk circa 1800. The superb clean lines of this antique English desk were used to showcase the beauty of the imported mahogany timber used in its construction. This was a personal piece of furniture able to be closed and locked to secure the contents from prying eyes. Please enlarge the photographs to see the handsome details including the ogee feet which elevates the chest and the elegant drop bale brass handles. When the lopers are extended to support the slant front writing surface this desk comes alive with beautiful surprises. The modern leather writing surface is embellished with blind tooling around its perimeter and the leather color complements the satinwood detail on the shelves and drawers. Yes! The two vertical panels flanking the center drawer are indeed secret compartments opened by a hidden release. A wonderful example of Georgian English design and craftsmanship ready to be used today. When open the slant top writing surface measures 31" high and will easily accommodate an armchair.
