Antique English Pine Writing Side Table circa 1875

An antique English pine writing side table circa 1875. This table shows the influence of mahogany furniture but translated into a more provincial material. The rectangular top extends beyond the base of the table and stands upon four legs. Each leg is a single block of pine that has been turned on a lathe to achieve an elegant pattern of ring turnings. An important design feature of this table is the manner in which the craftsman made the front apron that contains the drawer have a flat appearance across the entire facade by placing on the same plane as the legs. The drawer extends all the way across the front and is affixed with a pair of brass Chippendale style pulls. The hardware and turned design on the legs complement each other and create a pleasing overall effect.
