Antique French Royal Academy Life Drawing France circa 1880

This handsome antique French drawing was created during life drawing classes at the Royal Academy in France circa 1885. Please notice the signature in the upper left corner as drawings were only signed when considered accomplished enough for exhibition. The aim of life drawing was to be in the room with an actual living person and faithfully reproduce thier presence in an artistically aesthetic manner. The use of pencil and charcoal to highlight the musculature and classical pose of the model is quite effective in giving a three dimensional effect. This drawing retains its original wood frame embellished with a golden fillet enclosing the drawing.
