Antique French Belle Époque Period Iron Stained Glass Lantern France circa 1895
This elegant antique French iron and glass lantern from France circa 1895 was once illuminated by gas that flowed through the central shaft and showcased the refractive quality of the opaque and coloured glass set in the iron frame. The four sides of the lantern are each a curved section that descend to a point with a corresponding frame of scrolled ironwork at the top. Each of the four sides have an upper rectangular section of open iron work in a small scale while the iron work that shields the glass is a larger scale centred on a flower blossom. The combination of the opaque glass and the emerald green glass set against the iron framework is quite striking and gives the fixture its great power as a focal point. The lantern has been rewired for American electricity and accepts a standard base bulb.
