Antique French Belle Époque Period Louis XV Style Buffet circa 1895

A beautiful antique French Belle Époque period Louis XV style buffet circa 1895. Please notice the luscious curves and carving on this elegant buffet. The top has a lively undulating shape across the front along with a deeply moulded edge that also extends along the sides. Placed exactly in the center of the buffet are four evenly spaced drawers one above the other that each feature an inset panel that contains the escutcheon (the lock plate that protects the wood of the drawer from possible damage from the iron key) surrounded by a lovely curved moulding. Flanking the drawers are a cabinet door on the left and right that each have a dramatic slope from the center to the side on the top edge. The inset panel is quite deep and has a shaped profile around the entire perimeter. The carved motifs in each corner of the cabinet all feature scrolled flourishes that complement the iron hardware of all of the iron escutcheons on both the drawers and cabinet doors. Also both cabinet doors retain their original impressive iron hinges that extend the full length of the door. Take special note of the area above the doors and drawers as this inset section is banded by a Louis XV curved moulding that encloses a lovely carving of open flower blossoms entwined with foliate sprays. The apron at the base is delineated with a raised edge and centered on a large scallop shell. It is flanked an both sides with a floral carved motif similar to the area above the drawers and doors with fanciful flowers and vines. The front and back legs are robust examples of Louis XV style feet and each has a good amount of carved detail. The sides also have a shaped and arched panel to focus upon as well as an apron that is a continuation of the front apron. This attractive arrangement of beauty and function of this buffet is a hallmark of fine French design and cabinet making skill.
