Antique French Louis Philippe Cherry Buffet Enfilade circa 1875

A lovely antique French Louis Philippe cherry buffet enfilade circa 1875 with ebonized stringing inlay. The clean and simple lines of this antique French cabinet have a modern appeal and reflect the shift to simplicity seen during the reign of Louis Philippe in France (1830-1848). The beautiful luster of the cherrywood has been enhanced over the years by repeated waxing and polishing and this luscious patina is one of the highlights of this French enfilade buffet. There are three drawers set side by side in the apron with a curved profile known as "cavetto" from the original Italian moulding shape. The three recessed cabinet doors are set symmetrically beneath the drawers and each open separately to allow access to the interior. Please notice how the doors are set with concealed pin hinges to eliminate any visible hardware, only the shield shaped escutcheons (lock plates) and drawer knobs. Do enlarge the photographs to see the subtle decorative use of a slender thread of ebonized timber stringing inlay following the vertical and horizontal lines of the overall cabinet as the contrast in colouration is quite an effective visual conceit. The entire buffet enfilade is elevated on bracket feet with a straight apron.
