Antique French Louis Philippe Walnut Armoire Cabinet France circa 1870

This beautiful antique French Louis Philippe cabinet armoire from France circa 1870 is known as an "homme debout". A truly distinctive piece of French antique furniture the homme debout is always made with a center drawer separated by an upper and lower cabinet door.  A wonderful story is attached to this saying that during wartime the inside of the drawer would be removed thereby concealing a "standing man" or "homme debout"! When soldiers were searching they would bypass the cabinet believing a divided cabinet could not conceal anyone. Charming, no? The exceptional walnut timber used on this antique homme debout showcases the two doors with the matched pattern of the walnut creating a splendid effect.  The rich color of the solid walnut surrounding the doors is exceptionally warm and the patina has a marvelous gleam due to the years of waxing and polishing. The width of the crown is 46" wide.
