Antique French Louis XIV Régence Elm Buffet Credenza circa 1820

This antique French walnut buffet credenza circa 1820 in is the Louis XIV Régence style because of the configuration of the cabinet doors. Please notice the symmetrical pattern of the shield shape on each of the doors. The depth of the carving creates a dramatic impression. This cabinet making knowledge of how light would play across the surface reflected the fact that most interiors in the early nineteenth century were still illuminated by firelight and candlelight. The apron beneath the doors has a balanced profile spreading from side to side between the stylized cabriole feet and is notable for the architecturally inspired central motif. Both sides of the antique credenza feature recessed panels along with a similarly shaped apron ensuring that this French buffet is attractive from every direction. Both of the cabinet doors open fully to reveal a storage space bisected by a shelf to maximize the available area for objects. The steel hinges and escitcheons provide a handsome gleam against the beauty of the polished elm.
