Antique French Louis XV Cherrywood Table circa 1800

The elegantly simple lines of this antique French Louis XV cherrywood table circa 1790 give the table a modern sculptural appeal. Do enlarge the photographs to see the individually placed hand made pegs attaching the legs to the apron and the top of this French side table to to the frame indicating its hand made origin. Tracing the curve of the legs as well as the groove that accentuates the groove with a thumb or finger gives a sensory jolt as the lines are slightly uneven because it was made by the hand of a single cabinetmaker. By finishing the table on all four sides the maker ensured the table could be moved about an interior as needed with an equal amount of visual beauty on display at all times. We know this is a late eighteenth century table because of the straight horizontal line set at the base of the apron on all four sides indicating the influence of Louis XVI with its emphasis on tailored expression. The front of the table has a useful drawer opened with a simple pull.
