Antique French Louis XV Period Walnut Game Table circa 1750

An antique French Louis XV period walnut game table from France circa 1750. This elegant French game table has four exceptionally beautiful cabriole legs that sweep down from top to bottom in an elegant curve. Notice that each leg ends in a very distinctive foot known as a "pied de biche" named after the hoof foot of a female deer. This is an unusual motif and seen only on very fine pieces of French furniture. Please be sure to enlarge and zoom on all the photographs to see the lovely details of this piece. The top of the French game table has four straight sides with a large rounded section in each corner originally used for the placement of candlesticks. The entire top has a raised edge to ensure the cards did not slip off the table as well as providing an edge for the base of each candlestick to remain secure. Each of the four sides has a drawer and the top features a sumptuous leather playing surface embellished with marvelous embossed patterns. The color and patina of the walnut has a gorgeous glow and will easily accommodate four chairs. Measures 32" square x 28 1/2" high.
