One of the best attributes seen on this antique French server are the sections flanking the three cabinet doors. Each of these vertical sections are embellished with deeply impressed fluting with the grooves creating a terrific sense of light and shadow as the eye moves across the surface. Not only does the actual cabinet architecture feature this physical movement but the original marble top does as well. Be sure to enlarge the photographs showing the entire top to see how its shape conforms to the actual cabinet. Because the designer of this antique buffet credenza was aware it would be seen from the front and both the left and right sides please notice that the sides are finished with the same level of quality as the façade along with the same decorative features. Even the four legs have the same cylindrical shape and remain fitted with their reflective brass caps. It is important to remember that at the time this superbly executed French cabinet was made the onlky interior light available after the sun set was a fire in the hearth and lit candles in sconces, chandeliers and candlesticks. The beautiful glow of natural light highlighted the polished metal and bounced off of the highly polished ebonized lacquer surface. All three drawers and cabinet doors fully open to reveal maximum storage. The restrained and architectural design of this piece makes it perfect a modern and contemporary interior.
