Antique French Louis XVI Inlaid Walnut Neoclassical Chest of Drawers circa 1790

An exceptional Louis XVI period antique French inlaid walnut Neoclassical chest of drawers circa 1790. The superb design of this French walnut chest is visible from every direction, the front, top and both sides feature an astoundingly beautiful display of inlaid walnut in a geometric parquet pattern. The use of different shapes and light and dark colors to create a distinctive display reached its zenith at the end of the eighteenth century. Imagine a room ablaze with light from an open fire with candles flickering in candlesticks, wall sconces and a chandelier and reflecting this chest in a warm glow. It must have been almost a dance for the eyes as the light illuminated this antique chest of drawers. Please be sure to enlarge the photographs to see the marvelous inlaid detail accomplished by hand. One detail to treasure-look at the sides to see how the grain of the walnut is set horizontally framing the center panel while the timber runs vertically above and below the center panel while the panel itself features a pair of book matched sections of timber forming an organic pattern. Just marvelous.
