Antique French Louis XVI Mahogany Buffet Desserte Credenza circa 1875

This Louis XVI style antique French mahogany buffet credenza desserte circa 1875 has a few tricks up its sleeve. Besides being a handsome cabinet with drawer and inside cabinet storage with display space on top this antqiue buffet also serves as a piece the french call a "desserte". The top lifts up and is secured by a side panel on the left and right. Then two shallow shelves drop down for glasses and bottles between the side supports. That is fine as far as it goes but please enlarge the photographs and look closely at the top. There is a flat section on the left and right which lift up and fold out to rest on the lopers pulled out from the left and right side of the buffet. When opened the middle section of the top is removable and reveals the original oval brass basin used for rinsing out glasses when entertaining. Now we fill it with ice and set bottles and glasses and garnishes and let our guests prepare their desired drinks. The mahogany has a lustrous patina and the cut angle front corners and shaped front feet (called "toupie" shape in France) give this buffet credenza desserte a unique and sesirable appearance because of its clean and modern silhouette.
