Antique French Henri II Oak Writing Table Desk with Drawers circa 1890

An antique French Henri II style carved oak writing table desk circa 1890. Having two drawers and lavish decorative carving on all sides this handsome French oak table was designed to be seen from any angle with equal appeal. The substantial barley twist legs are joined by a horizontal stretcher also of barley twist form for added stability. Please notice the direction of the turnings on these legs as they face in to each other as opposed to all swirling in the same direction. This balance and symmetry is a sign of his quality as it is very pleasing to the eye. The apron beneath the writing surface is fished on the front, sides and back facing outward in a rhythmic design complementing the legs. In addition the edge of the top also has a carved pattern that extends around the entire perimeter giving the table an overall finished appearance. The height from the floor to the underside of the drawers is 24 1/2" high to easily pull up a chair.
