Antique French Sea Shell Display Under Glass Dome circa 1870

A charming antique French Napoleon III period floral display made of individual sea shells circa 1870 mounted under a glass dome (cloche) upon a shaped balck wooden stand. This marvelous example of French hand work is exceptionally beautiful as it depicts a bouquet of flowers using seashells. Please enlarge the photographs to see the care and skill lavished upon this depiction of living flowers rendered in minute detail using a variety of sea shells. Ranging in size from small seashells to large seashelss this diorama was assembled with the utmost care to be seen from all directions. The oval shaped glass cloche is fitted to the oval hand carved stand elevated upon four legs and carved to resemble swags of drapery around its entire perimeter. A terrific tribute to the unusual decoration seen during the nineteenth century in France made for a private home.
