Tall Antique German Painted Mirror circa 1820 Enclosing an Antiqued Mirror (42"w x 99"h)

Exceptional antique German painted Gothic framed mirror from Germany circa 1820 now enclosing an antiqued mirror. This frame has beautiful carving that combines the architectural simplicity with the addition of symmetrical tracery that are hallmarks of the Gothic. The frame was always designed to be seen from the sides as well as the front and that is why the handsome painted finish is visible from all directions. Please be sure to enlarge all the photographs to see the skilful cabinetry work used to create the frame originally. The frame has tremendous height and is quite striking in person as both the shape and colour contribute to the unique presence. The frame now encloses an antiqued mirror chosen to resemble an old mirror in order to enhance the appeal of the frame. Most likely the frame was used as an enclosure for a niche or as a frame for a piece of sculpture. Now it will definitely be a focal point wherever it is placed in an interior.
