Vintage Art Deco Period Glass, Chrome, Bakelite Pitcher, Austria circa 1930

A vintage Austrian Art Deco period glass pitcher from Austria circa 1930. This large pitcher was used for festive gatherings and retains its original glass insert to be filled with ice to keep the beverage chilled. The angular lines of the glass along with the distinctive shape of the handle identify it as being of the Art Deco period. The lid of the pitcher is made of chromed metal, also a hallmark of Art Deco, along with a Bakelite knob on the top. The modern profile of this pitcher makes it ideal for display while it may also be used as originally intended for chilled drinks. We have also seen these used as vessels for flowers which presents the flowers in a unique manner.
