Art Deco Vintage French Painted Iron and Marble Console Table France circa 1930

The angular lines and repeated design of this Art Deco period French console table from France circa 1930 are quite striking and embody the appeal of furnishings produced in 1930's France. The marble top has five sides as does the frieze beneath. While the front two legs possess a slight curve reminiscent of those seen during the eighteenth century. The open iron work design seen in the frieze showcases a pattern of opposing "C" forms that are evenly spaced to fill each of the five sections. Notice how the outer sides each have a single pair of opposing "C" forms bound together with a strap, the two slanted sides each have a pair of "C" forms while the centre of the frieze showcases three "C" forms. Set above each front leg in the frieze is a perfectly circular convex disk consistent with the entire design. The pattern of the two acanthus leaves set at the top of each leg echo the curve of the "C" and harmonize the overall appearance. The shallow depth of this console table makes it perfect for narrow spaces as it may be appreciated whether approached from the front or either side. Because the front legs are set at a recessed depth this console table is secure when attached to the wall. The iron table is finished with a dark grey black paint while the marble top has a pale colour.
