Vintage French Coffee Table, Rosewood and Black Glass, France circa 1950

This chic vintage French coffee table from France circa 1950 has an attenuated appearance because of its slender black legs set at an angle to the top. The rhomboid shape of the top features gently curved corners that embody the playfulness in furnishings and interiors that became a powerful influence in the 1950's. The highly reflective black glass (known as Vitriolite glass after the firm which patented the jet black glass) is set against the lustrous grain of the rosewood timber that makes the frame and this juxtaposition of materials adds to the glamour of the table. Whether used singly as a piece to add a modern touch to a room or as part of an entire collection from the period this is a stand out example of 1950's French design.
