Antique English Chippendale Style Carved Painted Oak Armchair England circa 1875

A handsome antique English Chippendale style carved and painted oak armchair from England circa 1875. Please notice the handsome carving on the entire front of this armchair. This is an unusual combination of an earlier Jacobean style of carving from the 17th century grafted on a chair form of the 18th century. The deep relief carving is quite attractive and the use of the painted finish not only highlights the effect of the carving, but imbues the chair with a fresh contemporary flavour. The seat has been re-upholstered with a wonderful monochromatic tightly woven chenille fabric in a a taupe mushroom colour that complements the chair.
