Enormous Antique French Pine Bibliothèque Bookcase Display Cabinet circa 1850

This stunning and enormous antique French pine cabinet bibliotheque is a true rarity. Constructed in two parts, a top that sits on the base, the four upper glass doors retain their original panes of hand cut and hand set glass within the original moldings. Please enlarge the photographs to see the exceptional details that ensure the unique quality of this French bibliotheque. Designed using architectural principles this antique pine bookcase sits on a plinth base that provides the proper overall visual weight. The simplicity of the crown (extending slightly beyond the cabinet sides and front) and the superb clarity of the rectangular doors above placed precisely in line with the lower cabinet doors is totally modernist in its approach. All the cabinet doors are separated by slightly raised pilasters giving a visual definition to the piece. Note the slight chamfering to the vertical edges of the pilasters which gives a slight bit of softness to the geometric precision. There are a total of 40 individual panes of glass set within the ebonized black painted molding, ten in each of the four doors. When the doors are opened it is easy to access the interior adjustable shelving to create a display of books and objects. Even the sides of this pine bookcase feature recessed panels to add visual and actual depth to the large expanse and echo the treatment of the lower cabinet doors. A truly terrific example of mid nineteenth century French craftsmanship at its best. The top measures 17 1/2" deep.
