Antique French Egyptian Revival Bronze Ink Pot circa 1880
A wonderful antique French Egyptian Revival bronze ink pot circa 1880 depicting an Egyptian scribe whose upper torso folds back to reveal a hidden inkwell. Please notice the idealized face of the scribe with his flowing wig and collar and armband. The front of his skirt depicts an offering of a staff to pharaoh. He is shown seated on a rectangular shaped base with a stylized version of the Wings of Horus. An implement of this style appealed to an educated class of people in France and England who were conversant with ancient history and fascinated with the story of ancient Egypt.
