"Fynbos Bright", Original Oil on Canvas, Jenny Parsons, South Africa, 2012

"Fynbos Bright", Original Oil on Canvas, Jenny Parsons, Cape Town, South Africa, 2012. Artist’s Statement I am a landscape painter, a painter’s painter, simultaneously delighting in my environment and the possibilities of paint. My work is representative, tending towards the abstract. I consider myself a colourist. My subject matter is my environment, the city in which I live, the city I see and experience daily. An intriguing part of urban landscape is the juxtaposition of manmade structures with nature. In Cape Town, this juxtaposition is constant, providing me with an arena to further explore colour and mark for its own sake. These paintings are visual songs about my walks in Jonkershoek Nature Reserve. I delight in the texture, colour and pattern of Cape Fynbos.
