George III Period Antique English Oak Chair circa 1790

A striking antique English George III period oak chair circa 1790. This handsome antique armchair showcases the skill of eighteenth century English cabinetmakers. Created entirely of native oak timber this chair was fitted with an upholstered seat cushion for maximum comfort. Because this Georgian chair has the original sides rails set diagonally on each side it is easy to imagine a large person sat on a regular basis. We love these unusual details that give an antique its unique sensibility. Please enlarge the photographs to see all the details in closeup including the original finish achieved by two centuries of life. The seat measures 19" wide x 16 1/2" deep x 15 1/2" high and the arm measures 24 1/2" high.
