Georgian Antique English Oak Laddderback Chair circa 1770

A terrific provincial Georgian oak ladderback chair circa 1770 made by hand. Please enlarge the photographs to see the details in closeup. This chair has its original patina showing the passage of time by the patterns of light and dark achived by being used on a daily basis. The single plank seat is hand chamfered and set into the turned oak frames on four sides. Because ther was not any glue used when this chair was constructed the seat moves slightly to account for the change in climate and humidity to stay strong and supportive. Now we see this chair as a piece of sculpture for its clean and pure lines give it a modern contemporary feel. The seat measures 17" high.
