Happy Buddha Painted Porcelain Figure China circa 1875

A hand painted porcelain figure of the Happy Buddha figure from Kuang Hsu period China c. 1875. The auspicious attributes of the Happy Buddha include prosperity and abundance which were always highly prized wishes extended to a couple on their wedding day. The figure was set upon a table in the centre of the home so the good fortune would extend throughout the lives of the family. The highly specific nature of the Buddha was revered in China and still casts his benevolent gaze wherever he appears.
