Large Antique English Bronzed Iron Cauldron England circa 1850

A large antique English bronzed cast iron cauldron standing on three feet from England circa 1850. This circular cauldron was cast to be used in a fireplace in a kitchen where it could be suspended on chains from the handle on either side or set at the edge of the fire on the three feet where coals could be moved closer for heat. The body of the cauldron becomes smaller at the top in order for the greatest amount of the contents to be exposed to heat near the centre. The mark denoting the capacity (6 GALL) may be seen in the centre of one side as it is raised from the surface. The cauldron is extremely heavy and durable which explains why it has remained in such excellent condition after so many years of use.
