Tall Antique French Walnut Buffet Credenza Cabinet circa 1810

This tall antique French Directoire Empire period walnut buffet credenza cabinet circa 1810 showcases the influence of the Empire period (1804-1820) when Napoleon I reigned as Emperor of France. Please notice the left and right sections flanking the cabinet doors are emphasized with a carved pilaster running from top to bottom while the sections flanking the drawers and apron are simple blocks used during the Empire period. The highly figured walnut timber seen on the drawer fronts and inset within the pair of cabinet doors are notable as only the best furniture took advantage of this quality timber. Please enlarge the photographs to see these details in closeup. All three drawers fully open for storage and both cabinet doors do as well. When the cabinets are open they reveal a shelf that effectively doubles the available storage. The sides have a recessed panel like the front doors and the original boards remain at the rear. The top shows the passage of time in a beautifully mellow fashion.
