Louis XVI Antique French Giltwood Bérgère Chair circa 1920

A classic Louis XVI style antique French giltwood bérgère chair circa 1920. The elegant profile of this chair were created in late eighteenth century France when Louis XVI reigned on the throne. Known as a "bergère" because the sides of the chair are fully padded. This technique provided a warm and cozy envelope for seating in a cold and chilly interior when the only heat available was from an open fireplace. This antique French chair is finished on all sides as it was originally designed to be seen from every angle with equal appeal.
