Antique French Louis XVI Style Painted Trumeau Mirror France circa 1850 (45"w x 64"h)

An antique Louis XVI style painted trumeau mirror with the original painting above the antique mirror glass from France circa 1850. The beautiful color of the painted wooden frame is highlighted with applied gilded molding embellishments notable for their restrained exuberance. Please enlarge the photographs to see the details of this trumeau mirror including the craqueluere of the original paint and the evident signs of age on the mirror glass. Please pay particular attention to the lovely painting at the top of the trumeau with its very good depiction of an aristocratic lady shieleded from the sun by her maidservant wielding a parasol while a male musician serenades her a tune on his wooden flute. Set within a beautiful garden landscape the figures are framed by a massive Italianate urn on a plinth and sweeping trees. trumeau mirrors were invented as part of the architectural detailing of an interior room in the eighteenth century and were often used above a fireplace or between sets of french doors above a console table or commode.
