Modern French Louis XIII Os de Mouton Leg Chair circa 2000

A modern French copy of a Louis XIII style mouton leg armchair with distinctive features covered in a green mohair fabric. What sets this chair apart is the slant of the back and the fully upholstered arms which gives this chair its amazingly comfortable feel when seated. In the seventeenth century when the chair was oiginally created the high back and fabric covered arms protected the body from drafts of cold air while the large expanse of the back and seat was covered in the most expensive Genoese or Venetian fabric available in the 1600's to show off the owner's wealth. Now the chair is covered in a green mohair with nail head trim. The profile of the legs and stretchers resemble that of the hind quarter of a sheep hence the French name "os de mouton" for this particular type of chair. The seat measures 18" high and the arm is 23" high.
