Neoclassical Antique Austrian Three Drawer Painted Chest circa 1830

The clean and simple lines of this antique Austrian painted chest of drawers circa 1830 relate to the Neoclassical style in vogue at the end of the eighteenth century. This antique chest has three drawers all the same size with a rounded edge that lays against the front of the chest to give a three dimensional aspect. All three drawers are opened by pulling on the ring handles and closed by gently pushing the entire drawer forward into the body. The elegant modern profile of the chest is embellished with the refreshed painted surface having a pale coloration. Please notice the reference to the Neoclassical style by the rectangular sections on each drawer front flanking the center stylized shield medallion. be sure to enlarge the photographs to see the original construction details (especially the photograph of the reverse of the chest) as well as the use of complementary painted designs. Both the left and right sides featured a recessed panel with a raised geometric medallion highlighted with another Neoclassical design notable for its symmetry and balance. Elevated on slender stright tapered legs this antique chest is wonderfully suitable for a variety of interiors.
