(On Hold) Neoclassical Antique French Charles X Birchwood Chest Commode Marble Top circa 1830

A superb antique French Charles X birchwood commode chest circa 1830 with its marble top. Stunningly modern in its simplicity this antique French chest has three drawers all opening by key. Please enlarge the photographs to see the elegant details that make this such a fine examle of French design and craftsmanship. The entire chest features a beautifully grained birchwood veneer that positively ripples in the light. Designed and constructed in the early nineteenth century when light came from open fireplaces and lit candles the light color and unusual pattern of the birchwood would have been a focal point in a well appointed living room. Note the rounded front corners that extend all the way from the top section beneath the marble top all the way down along the straight tapered leg pulling the eye along its continuous line. This subtle architectural detail is only seen on the best furnishings from this period when Charles X reigned as King of France. The original marble top features a back edge with its original hand cut surface easily felt when touched. Exceptional when viewed from every angle this antique French chest commode is perfect fopr both contemporary and transitional interiors.
