Antique Chinese Oval "Famille Verte" Platter Ming period China circa 1770

A large antique Chinese oval "famille verte" platter from Ming period China circa 1770. This distinctive platter has a raised rim that is wide enough in area to contain the bold scale pattern of elongated ovals separated by grounds of green enamel in a fish scale pattern. Please note that the painted enamel finish has been hand painted and feature the slight variations that distinguish period porcelain from later examples. The contrast between the brilliant green and blue on the pattern is enhanced by the potent rust orange colour also seen around the rim. This platter was made for the export market in Europe supplied by China because the central motif is of a blossom in full bloom similar to those seen in English and French porcelain. This combination of Chinese and European motifs was extremely popular in the eighteenth century and remains desirable today whether this is a single punctuation in an interior display or included as part of a larger collection.
