Pair Antique French Architectural Henri II Columns circa 1860

A pair of spectaculer antique French architectural carved oak Henri II style half columns circa 1860. These impressive antique French architectural columns have a unique combination of motifs that create their stylish impact. The capitals are Corinthian in inspiration and have a decidedly French influence with the portrait medallions seen in the centre, one of a man and the other a woman. Also see the profile portraits on the left and right side of the capitals. The bold and expressive scrolls frame these portraits and give a sense of majesty and occasion. The centre section is highlighted with deeply grooved fluting embellished with an ebonized black finish to add a dramatic sense of vertical movement, Situated beneath the fluting is a band of symmetrical interlaced bands adding texture by use of light and shadow. The base of the columns is a tour de force of images including lion masks holding brass rings set within a raised landscape of latticework. Please enlarge the photographs to see the amazing details of these architectural salvage antique columns in closeup.
