Pair Antique Italian Empire Walnut Neoclassical Chairs circa 1890

A pair of superb Neoclassical Italian Empire style walnut chairs circa 1890 featuring curved top rails tapering to the seat. The simplicity of these chairs is truly wonderful. Inspired by the Neoclassical period in late eighteenth century Europe after the discovery of the ruins at Pompeii and Herculaneum these chairs take all the best features and combine them in a sculptural manner. Please enlarge all the photographs to see the combination of superbly chosen walnut and the skillful craftsmanship that created these perfectly proportioned chairs. The curved top rail on the chair back contrasts beautifully with the fluted carving on the seat back with its tapered form. All four legs possess a slight cabriole curve that balances the curve of the top rail and are utter simplicity. Exceptional from every direction.
